View over the Hungarian Parliament from my girlfriend’s grandmother’s flat. During the Hungarian revolution of 1956, it was here, outside parliament, that thousands of student protestors gathered, and were fired upon by state security police - in the entrances to the buildings on the far right of this photo, there are permanent metal studs fitted into the walls where bullet holes were found, as a memorial to those killed.
